Christmas Nails #2: OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza on Coloured Bases

Hello again!
So, I have already shown you how OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza looked like on its own.

Here is what it looks like with one coat over other colours: :-)

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza + Erre Due Exclusive shimmerry purple

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza + MaxFactor Nailfinity in Dusky Rose

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza + H&M Kiss Goodnight shimmerry black

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza + Sergio Nail Polish No58 shimmerry blue

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza + H&M Berry Love matte red

Here is how all of them look like. I think the red looks more festive, the pink more girly and the blue and black more edgy. You can do all your nails the same colour or each one different like me or any combination you want. The same top coat glitter will bring the look together.

Christmas Nails #1! Berry Love & Confetti Kisses

Hello again! December is here! And with Christmas around the corner I thought I'd start posting some holiday beauty ideas. Let's start with nail polish! I found these two adorable polishes in H&M only for 1,95 euros each!

Berry Love is an adorable rich red colout that is perfect for Christmas! This shade of red reminds me of santa claus, and stockings and it makes the perfect base for the second colour of the collection!

Confetti Kisses is a silver glitter polish with small silver glitters and bigger hexagon ones that make the nails sparkle! The finish is smooth and shinu so you don't need any extra top coat! I think it makes the nails super festive!

I think these two polishes make an amazing combination that will make your nails the show stopper and with no real effort. It is also a good value of money as the quality is quite good and the red can be used all year round without the glitter on top for a more basic look.

Now, if you want a twist in your manicure you can paint one of your nails with a beige polish (I used Basil Street from nails Inc). This will draw more attention to your nails and it can be a fun look to try. especially if you like to be a bit more playful with your nail colours!

You can also do the opposite which is paint 4 nails beige and one red. to draw the attention on the bold colour. You can even do 1 beige and 4 red in one hand and 1 red and 4 beige on the other so that your hands mirror each other. Of course you can also change the base colors, have each nail a different base with only the glitter pulling the look together. It all depends on how daring you are and where you have to go with these nails.

Christmas is supposed to be fun! Experiment and enjoy!

OPI Extra-Va-Vaganza!

I tweeted a week ago that I got this nail polish. It's from the OPI Burlesque collection and it was left over from last Christmas at my local Sephora. I don't know if you'l be able to find it but I'm sure you can find something similar. especially with how popular glitter polishes are currently.

First time I tried it I put it over a red base and it looked amazing with one coat! It was like christmas ornaments on my nails! But I thought I'd show you how it looks on natural nails. This is after two coats. I think the coverage is quite good with that and the nail doesn't stand out much because of the colour of the polish. Three coats should give you perfect coverage.

This nail polish is made of very thin glitters mainly orange but with a lot of multicoloured and silver ones too that stand out on your nails. The finish is quite rough as when it dries you can feel the small glitter grains on your nails. I think it's unusual and I like it but I guess you can make it more shiny with a top coat.

I intend to do a post with that glitter over a few other colours to see how it works with different bases to give you ideas for the holidays so stay tuned!

OOTD Red & Leopard

This is one my favourite outfits to wear! It's comfortable because it has tights and flat shoes And it is super warm because of the knit top and the red coat. :-)

I see a lot of red coats around during winter and I used to think it would be very hard to pair them with your outfits. I think the simplest way to wear a red coat and rock it is with black and white. Usually black and white outfits might wash you out or look too simple. A pop of red is exactly what you need to make the outfit super cute!

If you are a bit more daring with your outfit you can also add some animal print. I think in this case a purse or a scarf would be ideal and it would be even better if the item with the animal print contained some of you base colours (in this case black/white) or even red.

Don't forget that once you are where you're going you will take the coat off and probably leave your bag too. It is a good idea to keep a red element on you and I would suggest red lips that look good on almost everyone. ;-)

Finally, do not overdo it with your outfit. Opt for a black pair of flats with a sublte detail (here the bow on the flats matches the bow on my bag) if you have print on your bag or scarf. But even you wear a black scarf and hold a black bag I think black flats will keep the outfit simple and focus all the attention on your coat and your lips which will be adorable!

Basil Street by Nails Inc

Hello again! So, I got this nail polish with GLAMOUR which was amazing because Nails Inc polishes are normally expensive and this one was 2 pounds for the full size+you get the magazine too! The colour is called Basil Street and I absolutely love it. This is how it looks with two coats of polish.

My first comments were that it reminded me of nougat or toffee and it was like I had something sweet on my nails. Actually I saw later that the description on the Nails Inc webpage is "a chic pale toffee shade" so I was right!

As a colour it didn't look that different from my skin tone and it was a nice change from my usual bright eccentric nails. I think it looks very chic and you can wear it all the time (I know I want to). Also I was impressed by how long it lasts without chipping (at least a week!) and it didn't get ruined when I washed dishes which is when other polishes usually fail me. However you might want to avoid soaking your nails in hot water because then it might come off.

Overall I can honestly say that this is one of the best polishes I have ever tried and I can't wait to try more of Nails Inc polishes!

Btw. If you want to get this colour here is the link:

Intimidating Shop Assistants

Hello! How are you?

Today I had some free time between classes and I decided to go to MAC and SEPHORA to look around the new products and make some mental notes about what I'm going to get for the holidays. The MAC Christmas collection is out so I went to try the products myself and I was hoping to find the Muppets OPI collection at SEPHORA. Now, the moment I walk in SEPHORA I get at least three assistants wanting to help me. Not that I don't appreciate their help but sometimes I just want to browse and swatch some products and see how they look on my skin. Other times that I am looking for something I just go and ask for their help.

So I walk in today and the security guy asks if I need help.. Ok.. That was a bit weird. Since when is that part of his job? So he pointed me to the counter of the products I was looking at from the front display and he also said I could try them on and that they were quite good. The products I am talking about are the TOO FACED palettes (which I loved and I'm going back to get one of them).

After that I made my way to the basement where they have the OPI counter and the sale counter (by the way there's a lot of makeup forever pots 30% off and I might get one to try it-suggestions?). So there was one shop assistant there and she was on the phone so I heard her saying that she is busy because she has a customer. First thought: omg..she means me... please make me invisible! And I was right because the next moment she was asking me if I needed any help. I said not thank you and moved on to some other products. She kept looking at me over another display and when I was looking at the OPI polishes she came again. I answered again that I was ok but this time she stayed next to me and started making comments about every nail polish I picked up... Seriously... I need my space when I'm shopping! I find it really annoying when people stay next to you when you try to look at things. So I put the polishes down and asked her about the muppets collection. She had no idea.. She asked me about the colours in it and when I told her the names of the entire collection she said they have probably ordered them and I should try going there next week and backed away.

Then I went to MAC. I knew exactly what I was looking for so when the shop assistant approached I asked my questions and made her understand I knew what I wanted to buy and I did not need any help besides being left to try the products on my skin. She was actually quite nice, and eventhough she tried to sell me the christmas brushes she did admit at the end that they are factory made therefore not as good as their normal ones. Unfortunately they did not have all the products of the glitter and ice collection but the ones I tried gave me a good idea about the quality of the collection (snow season minaralize eyeshadow was very good-shimmermint was too sheer for my taste). I told her I will come again when I decide which ones I want to get and thanked her for her help.

I know that a lot of people are intimidated when shop assistants try to persuade them to buy stuff and they might end up buying things they don't really need. So my tips for that situation are the following:

1. Learn to say no thank you. If it doesn't work be polite and tell them you are fine and you will ask for help when you need it.
2. Know what you want to buy. A little bit of research online will give you a good idea of what products are out there and when the shop assistant insists on helping you you can just have them find these products and make a small demonstration to you. You might also see something that might not be in the shop so you would have missed it and maybe ask if they can order it for you at the shop.
3. If you just want to browse without looking for something specific and #1 doesn't work you can always have a product  you know as a failsafe. What I mean is pick a product you like from that shop, preferably something with many shades and say you are looking to repurchase that or to find something it combines well with. This will show the shop assistant that you are someone who knows what he/she likes and any suggestions will be based on satisfying you and not just selling anything they can. Who knows, you might find a product you hadn't thought of using before and it looks good on you.
4. Finally.. Do not buy anything you don't like. If you are not sure that the product looks good just say you need to think about it a it more, or you don't have enough money on you and leave. I would advise you not to buy anything on the spot because when you go home you can think about it again and make a clearer decision. If you feel you really want to get it you can always go back tomorrow.

I hope I didn't tire you with all my rumbling and I really hope this helps you. I wish someone had given me those tips some years ago. I know I will be going back for the TOO FACED palette but maybe I will not go back for the MAC eyeshadow. We'll see...

Polka Dot Nails!

Hello everyone!
So, I had just painted my nails pink with the Maxfactor nailfinity in Dusky Rose and I thought it was way too plain. So I decided to spice up the look by adding some dots. Polka dots are one of the major trends of this fall and adding them to your nails is a great way to incorporate the trend to your outfit without having to buy anything new.

You just need two different nail polishes and a toothpick or a bobby pin. Paint your nails with one of the colours and then dip the boby pin in the other one and add dots to your nails!

You can create an even pattern like the one above or experiment with different sizes of dots from nail to nail and give it a more playful tone. Notice the differences from nail to nail in the photo below.

Overall I think this is an fun and easy look to create and it looks like you spent a lot of time doing it. If you recreate this look please send me a picture on twitter (you'll find the link on my page)
Lots of  love!! xxx
