Golden Shore Manicure

Hello beauties!

Today I have a summery manicure inspired by the sea and the beach sand.

Nail polishes used:
Essie Coat Azure
H&M Sunset Gold

The COAT AZURE polish came as an accident because I wanted another Essie colour and the order got completely messed up but since I'm not in America and I had a friend ordering it for me by the time he brought it to Greece and I saw it was the wrong one there was nothing I could do because he was not going back to america for months. At first I was not sure about the colour because in the bottle I could see a pearly shimmery effect that I didn't like but when I actually tried it it came much more muted  but with a nice sheen to it. Also it looks amazing on my skintone. VERDICT: I love it! I think it's going up with my favourite nail polishes because it looks so good on me!

SUNSET GOLD is a polish I have been pairing with yellow so far so there was not such a sharp contrast before. As it turns out it's much more grainy over a darker colour because the glitters are chunky. Still I think it worked for this look because it is as if I dipped my nails in the sand. Other than that I advise you to let each coat dry before applying a new layer because it may get a bit thick.

Also you can see I took photos against different things to check how the manicure looks with different colours you may have on your outfits. I would suggest pairing muted colours with bright ones to create contrast and make all the colours pop!

Also I love roses... lol

Let me know what you think!

Sweet Stripes and Dots

So, I spent a week with a french manicure and after it I needed to do something fun and colourful!

Polishes used:
white thin brush polish
My Lifesaver by Nicole by OPI
Rising Sun by H&M
A Lovely Secret by Essence
Coral Road by H&M

I painted fours of  my fingernail with different colours and made white stripes on them and then I painted my thumb white and made dots with the four other colours to tie the design and colour scheme together.

I think it's a very fun design that incorporates brights and pastels which have been very popular this spring and summer and with the white it gives a vintage candy store vibe that makes me want ice cream.

I think stripes is a very fun and easy way to spice up a manicure and I love it very much!

Let me know if you try it!

Diamond Jubilee Nail Art!

Hello!!!!

As you may know, his weekend England celebrates the Queens 60 years of reign and everyone is in a very patriotic mood. So I thought I'd mark this event with some nice British nail art!

Polishes used:
1. Berry Love by H&M
2. Electric Blue by Maybelline
3. Confetti Kisses by H&M
4. White by Olivia

Here's is how you do the Union Flag in 5 simple steps in pictures!
For St George's Cross flag do step 1+2 with white and red nail polish!
For the ring finger I used some silver glitter because it looks kind of like diamonds!

And here's he finished hand! I really like this manicure. It looks so festive and bright!

Now I'm taking my union flag clutch from Accessorize and I'm good to go! I hope you all have a lovely weekend!
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN!!!

What's Your Accent....Nail??

Hello!!! How are you all?

Lately I've been rocking a fun nail trend which is painting one (or more) nails a different colour, making it an accent nail. You can wear this look in a variety of ways by altering the nail you paint a different colour and creating contrasts by using different colours or patterns. The way I like doing it is more subtle, by choosing a colour similar to the other nails, but in a glitter polish.

Since both those manicures are based on the same logic I thought I'd put them in the same post and save me and you the trouble of reading the same things twice. So, the polishes I used are the following!

Rising Sun by H&M - a bright sunshine yellow
Sunset Gold by H&M - a fine rose gold glitter
Misstique by Missguided - a bright teal (dupe for OPI's Fly I think)
Blue Addicted by Essence - blue based with fine blue glitter and teal and green hexagonal glitters (dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Across the universe)

The nail I like putting the glitter on is usually the ring finger and sometimes I also do my thumb. This time I only did the ring finger. And here's another look of the final result!

I hope you liked this post! let me know if you like doing an accent nail with your manicure and what nail and colours you prefer using. See you soon!

Nail Fail: Water Marble

Hello!!

Nice to see you again. Today I thought I'd show you a manicure that didn't turn out as I wanted. Me and my best friend were playing around with my nail polishes trying to figure out what would work out and make some nice effects on water. However most of my polishes would dry too quickly and create a layer on top of the water so when we tried mixing hem it would smudge and not work out as we wanted. However in the end I liked all the pretty colour on my nails so I kept this for a few days until it chipped. I think water marble is trickier than it looks but I'll definitely try again. For now I thought I'd show you the "nail fail" and hopefully make you laugh a bit. After all it's all about having fun with makeup and facing everything with humour. ;)

Till next time,
Kristine

Prints and Cushions: A popular fashion print guide!

Hello!!

I know it's been some time since my last post but I haven't been feeling very inspired to write about something and I didn't want to post just to post. BUT! I woke up today thinking that I always forget the names of fabric patterns and I also disagree about some of them with other people so I thought I might as well look them up and see what I would find. I also thought it would be fun to show an example of those pattern in cushions because cushions are adorable and they are a good way to add a pattern to your house without going all out on it.

1. Polka dots: this pattern is one of the most known ones. The main idea is a background with dots on it usually in similar size and distance to each other. But you can be creative with it of course. I find this pattern good for nail art too because it's easy and fun.

2. Stripes: striped fabrics have also been very popular and they are essential for the navy look which has been on trend for several summers now. Striped clothes create optical illusions making yo look taller+thinner when wearing vertical stripes and curvier when wearing horizontal ones. I am not a stripes person myself so I don't think I own anything with this pattern. But I do like using it for nail art because this is also an easy thing to do.

3. Pin Stripes: You might put this is the same category with regular stripes but I prefer separating them. Pin stripes is how men tend to wear stripes. Pin stripes add a fun note in a serious office suit without being too obvious. Fun fact: David Tennant would wear a pin striped suit when he played the Doctor in BBC's Doctor Who.

4. Chevron: This pattern had been popular since ancient Greece where it was used for pottery decoration. In western culture it was used in heraldry to decorate coats of arms and in modern times it's used on military rank symbols and road signs. Of course it's also used in fashion because it's a simple elegant pattern.

5. Herringbone: Very similar to chevrons, herringbone took its name for the bones of the herring fish. The difference with this pattern is that the zigzag pattern interchanges colour in the same line creating a 'broken' effect.

6. Houndstooth: Originating in Scotland this is a very traditional British pattern. You would normally find it in very elegant clothes that are marketed for older women although lately with the heritage trend that was popular for winter this print became popular amongst younger ages and became one of the edgy patters paired with leather jackets and studded accessories.

7. Checkers: As the name suggest this pattern comes after the checker board that we play chess on. Therefore the original print looks like this although people tend to call by the same name gingham prints and plaids. This although popular is not correct in the true sense of the name. Emo fashion that became a trend some years ago used this print a lot for clothing and accessories thus making it controversial amongst younger ages who would disagree on the pattern being a symbol of the emo ideology or simply a fashion trend without any meaning.

8. Gingham: The etymology of this name means striped and its characteristic was that it was striped in a checked pattern. However true gingham pattern is the one that the squares the stripes meet on are of a darker colour than the rest. I may not explain it that well but you can see in the images what I mean. If you compare it with the true checkers you can see the difference is quite obvious which in my opinion makes it a different print.

9. Plaid: This one is clearly NOT a checked pattern! Also called Tartan, this pattern is closely associated with Scottish culture as it has been adopted as the National Dress of Scotland. Different patterns of tartan were used to identify Scottish clans and they were worn on their kilts. Today this pattern is very popular on flannel shirts in America and was used for a number of clothes in the heritage trend in Britain.

10. Argyle: Originating as a variation of the plaid pattern argyle designs also started in Scotland. They are basically diamond shaped as the images show and they became popular after the first world war in Britain and America. Not much to say about this pattern because I think we're all familiar with it, though not with its name. I believe that almost everyone has at some point had a jumper or a paid of socks with this pattern. I know I did. ;)

11. Paisley: This design is of Indian and Persian origin and it came to Europe around the 17 century. It looks like droplets and it became quite popular during "The summer of love" Personally I don't like this design but I keep seeing it around lately so it had to have its place in my list.

12. Floral prints: Now here's something that I really like! Floral prints vary from tiny little pastel flowers to large boldly coloured ones and are always a must for spring. Floral designs look flattering on everyone and because they're so popular it's easy to find the exact design that's best for you. Flower power! ^_^

13. Animal prints: I am all for animal prints for the past few years. At first I was not sure about them because they appeared to make a statement but they have since become like a neutral and a staple in my wardrobe. Animal prints can be of any animal but the most popular ones are leopard and zebra. I decided to show you some more though because there are so many and you can find exactly what you want. Also, I really like the neon animal print trend (thing LMFAO) that I've been seeing but I am not sure whether I would actually attempt it.

Note: There are also prints with animals (horses, birds) and other patterns (hearts, stars) that have been popular for the past couple of years but until I see what will become of them I do not think they are a specific print category but either a variation of the polka dot print or just something that people printed on fabrics like they print anything else they can think of.

So, I hope you enjoyed this post and you found it informative. It took quite some time to find and write everything but I'm happy with it. So subscribe to my blog if you like and check out my youtube channel for beauty and fashion videos and hauls.

LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub Review

Hello everyone!

Today I thought I'd talk about something I've been using for about a month now. It's the LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub. I tend to get dry lips in the winter so I decided to get this product to exfoliate them. I have been using it for a month and I believe I like it.

The scrub itself is pink, looks like sugar and smells and tastes like bubblegum. The best part is that it's edible! So you take some with your finger and rub it on your lips to remove the dead skin as a normal scrub and them you lick it off! I thought this was an amazing idea! It tastes so good!

At first you see great results and you lips do feel softer but you have to be careful not to overuse it. I tried using it daily and the result was that my lips became very sensitive and drier because I think they were trying to make up for the skin they were losing. So it is really important that you use a lip balm after this and moisturize your lips a lot daily so that they feel healthy and soft. I found the ideal dosage for the scrub for my lips is every 5 days depending on how dry they feel. But it's much more important to invest on a good lip balm.

I would definitely recommend this product for those with dry lips but probably after being sure that simply a lip balm is not enough and they really need to exfoliate too because I think too much exfoliation when it's not needed can do more damage than good. That's it for now..

Kristine
