St Patrick's Day Outifit and Nails!

Hey there!

Raise your hands if you got a bit drunk on St Patrick's day... I got really cold watching the parade in London and I was not up for going out at night but I did have a nice roast and a pint of Guinness in the pub afterwards.

But I should get to the point. As you know you have to wear green (otherwise they pinch you until you turn green as I found out), so I found this little green dress in the depths of my wardrobe and I bought this hat, which I wish I could wear every day, put on some green eyeshadow and here's the result!

Outfit!
Dress - Bershka
Cardigan - Stradivarius
Belt - Primark
Tights - Primark
Wellies - Primark
Hat - Random person in Trafalgar square

Makeup!
Eyes - Beauty Uk palette in Soho (review here)
Lips - L'Oreal Color Riche Serum in True Red (review here)

As for my nails I wanted to go for a rainbow/pot of gold theme with some extra not very successful shamrocks and this is how they turned out!

Polishes used!
Butter London - British Racing Green
OPI - Fresh Frog of Bel Air
Essence - A Lovely Secret
Essie - Coat Azure
Barry M - Greeberry
H&M - Rising Sun
Beauty Line - neon orange
H&M - Berry Love
OPI - Goldeneye
and some loose gold glitter for the old pieces in the pot

I was quite happy with the result and I had a lot of fun! What did you do and wear on that day??

The Perfect Pastel Pink Nail For Spring!

Spring is finally here!

I am so excited! I may even stop getting colds now (as if I will be that lucky). Anyway, the point is that now the desire to wear pretty pastel nail polishes has multiplied. They are he best way to introduce more colour in your daily outfits and make the transition to spring colours. Scarves are another good idea.

Polishes used!
Barry M - Dragon (gelly shades)
Barry M - Foil Effects silver
Nicole by OPI - Rainbow in the S-Kylie

So I was in Boots the other day looking for a new nail polish when I finally I found the perfect pastel pink shade for me! Dragon is a blue toned pink but it is bright enough to look food with my skin tone. It needs three coats for full opacity and the finish is quite shiny, since it is part of the gelly collection. Still I suggest using a top coat to make the manicure last longer. I also loved the name, because dragons are cute!

I also got the silver one, which promised to look like foil on the nails. It does not. But is a nice metallic shade so I will just wear it as such. I suppose it is not that easy to create the mirror look with actual polish. Unless the foil they had in mind was the matte side of the foil, which just looks metalling. And I am not being too harsh, I would buy this polish as a nice metallic silver, no need to deceive me to believe it does something it does not.

The colourful glitter was my idea to make the whole manicure more fun and over the pink nail polish it reminds me of the bath bombs by Lush and pretty cupcakes with sprinkles. Or pink party rings. Enough.. this is making me hungry.
This particular glitter was from the Kardashian collection but other dupes are Rainbow connection by OPI and Happy Birthday by Deborah Lippman. I am sure there are some more but I have not seen them in person so I do not want to say anything.

So what is your favourite nail polish for spring? Or your favourite pink shade?

Black and Brown Manicure!

Do black and brown go together?

I am afraid I still can not answer. But since I was going to  London Fashion Week event I thought I would make a statement and rock this combination. Also it was time for some nice elaborate nail art, and here is the result!

Polishes used
H&M - Kiss Goodnight
China Glaze - Dress Me Up
Butter London - British Racing Green
glitter nail art pen
Peacocks nail art rhinestones from a Christmas gift set

As I already said, the statement was to work black and brown together and I also decided to add green in the mix with a green necklace and green accents in my nails. I used colour blocking, polka dots and lines to create a harmonious effect between essentially different nail designs. The rhinestones really did complete the look and made it look much more polished.

And in case you were wondering about the outfit too, here it is! The dress is from Peacocks, the belt from Primark and the necklace was my grandmother's. I also had brown shoes but they were not in the photo (the awkward time you haven not trained the people with you in the way you want your photo taken...). You can, on the other hand, see them in my shoe collection video (they are the brown heels).

So what do you think? Please comment and let me know!

Kristine

OOTN Chinese New Year

Helloooooo!!! Happy Chinese New Year!

Ok, I know it was on Sunday but my aunt and I went to an event celebrating that today and it was really fun! At first I did not know what to wear but I did some research and found you are supposed to wear red and gold for good luck. So I put on my red skirt, my cardigan with the gold threading and some gold accessories and here I am!

Outfit!
Top - Primark
Skirt - Primark
Cardigan - H&M
Tights - Primark
Shoes - Peacocks
Bracelet - Primark
Rings - Primark
Necklace - H&M
Hairband - Primark

Makeup!
MaxFactor Ageless Elixir foundation
MAC Studio Finish concealer
MAC Mineralise Skin Finish Natural powder
Maybelline 24Hr Colour Tattoo in Eternal Silver (used as eyeliner)
Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara
Sleek blush in Pomegranate
Shiseido lipstick in Dragon
Benefit Ultra Shine Lip gloss in Foxy Lady
H&M nail polish in Berry Love
OPI nail polish in Goldeneye

The little cuddly snake was a good luck gift because it is the year of the snake now! The water snake to be specific. Isn't it exciting? Everyone born this year will be a snake in Chinese zodiac signs! You are also a snake if you were born in 1905 (wood), 1917 (fire), 1929 (earth), 1941 (metal), 1953 (water), 1965 (wood), 1977 (fire), 1989 (earth), 2001 (metal).
I am a horse (metal) by the way!

Did any of you celebrate the Chinese new year? For me it is a good excuse to see some dragons and have some great food (yes all holidays come down to the food in the end)!
Also do tell me your Chinese zodiac signs! I would love to know!

Collection Big Fake Ultimate Mascara Review

 Hello!

As I mentioned in my last video, I was running out of my Benefit Bad Gal Lash mascara and I wanted to try something new. Since I generally love the Collection products I have tried, I thought I would give their mascaras a chance. The packaging claimed to give a false lash effect, so I thought it would be fun to try it out.

First let's have a look at the claims they make about it on the Collection website:
- water resistant formula
- triples lash volume
- stretches each individual lash
- no smudging or clumping
- red packaging and brush

So, ok the packaging is red, but, unless you have a particular reason for wanting that, it is not really important. As for the brush, once it is covered in mascara, it looks black. Bit of a fail in the logic behind this I think. I do love that the brush is big though, because I can avoid having to go over the lashes multiple times in order to get the product on.

The formula is quite nice, I am not sure if it will stay put underwater, but I watched a sad film and teared up and there was no smudging. When you take it off, though, it does get everywhere. You start with panda eyes when the wipe touches your eyes (which only look good in pandas), but at least this means it is easy to remove without having to rub your eyelashes and damage them.

Now, what it does to your lashes. As it claims, there is no clumping. I hate spider lashes so I liked that there was none of that. It also feels very lightweight, which I really like. As for triple lash volume and stretching individual lashes, I think the claims are a bit too far fetched. I did not see a huge difference in volume, and the lengthening was only due to the fact it is so black that it really colours the ends of the lashes, which tend to be thinner.

Overall I was satisfied with it. It does not look like I have big fake lashes on, and I am quite happy about that. It may not live up to its claims, but what I ended up with was a really natural 'your lashes but better' effect. Definitely a day time mascara for me, I will use it but probably not repurchase it after it is finished.

For the price of 5.99 would you consider trying it?

Kristine

Glitter: The Easiest Way for Gradient Nails

Hey there!

Last week I wanted to do a mani that would look fancy and difficult, but I would not actually be so, because I did not have too much time. The result was this!

I have always loved gradient nails because they look cool, but with opaque polishes the best way to achieve a good result is with a makeup sponge. However, using a glitter polish doesn't need that at all, because all you need to do is put the first brush stoke on the tip of the nail, to deposit most of the glitter there, and then paint the inside of the nail with whatever is left on your brush. Then put some more glitter on the tips to make them quite opaque and finish with a top coat! That simple!

Polishes used:
Collection 2in1 Strengthener and Hardener (base and top coat)
Essie Mint Candy Apple
H&M Aqua Splash

This mani has stayed on for 6 days so far without chipping, which I am very happy about! I totally recommend all the polishes I used, especially the nail strengthener!

And if you want to do a proper gradient nail with opaque polishes you can always watch my tutorial about it:

Now go have fun with your nails! (Does this sound dodgy?)

Kristine

OOTN: Ministry of Sound

Hello!!!

I was thinking, one of the most fun parts of a night out is dressing up for it. And I know I usually want to go for the standard dress and heels, but sometimes I prefer trying sth different, for the sake of keeping things interesting and giving my feet a break. So I picked this outfit because it is comfortable but still looks quite nice.

Top: Stradivarius
(but any white tank top will be exactly the same)
Waistcoat: Primark
Shorts: Stradivarius
(again any black shorts will do)
Tights: Primark
Shoes: Primark
(the same spiked flats from the previous posts because I do wear them all the time!)
Hairband: Primark
(spikes will make any outfit edgy)
Necklace: Spitalfields market
(fob watches are cool! and I love them!)

As for my makeup, I've starting doing sth different than usual and apparently it looks good (people have told me so). So instead of using eyeshadow, as I normally would, I just lined my eyes making sure I created a bold line and I left my lips nude to keep the attention to my eyes. I also used some blush to add a hint of colour to my face.

Foundation: MaxFactor Ageless Elixir
Concealer: MAC Studio Finish in NW20
Eyeliner: Collection Glam Crystal Gel Liner in Rock Chick
Mascara: Maybelline The Falsies (I don't like it but I wanted to finish it)
Blush: Sleek in Pomegranate
Lipstick: MAC Cremesheen in Innocence Beware
Lipgloss: Benefit Ultra Shine in Nudie-Tude

Let me know what you think and if you'd wear this for a night out. :)

Love,
Kristine

Spring 2013 PRIMARK Collection - Wishlist!

Heeeeey there!

Enjoying the snow? I was. But then I got ill because I went out a lot. And I must admit that after making a snowman I am kinda looking forward to spring. And spring means new clothes collections in the stores and nice shopping trips with your girlfriends.

So today I came across the new PRIMARK collection online and I decided to show you what I have my eye on so when it hits the store I'll know what to go get.

Dresses:
A striped morning dress is lately becoming a basic. You can use it to create navy inspired outfits or simply pair it with a solid coloured blazer and a nice statement necklace for a quick but stylish outfit.
The second dress I think can be dressed up or down according to the accessories you choose. The simplest way to dress is down is with a cardigan, flats and an oversized bag, while a pair of heels, a small clutch and some gold jewellery would have you ready for a night out in no time.
As for the last dress, think formal event. During the day chose nude heels and at night go for a bold contrast; neon yellow would be a good one.

Shirts:
I've been loving shirts in the past year or so. They can be a dressy alternative to jeans and a plain t-shirt but equally easy to wear every day. Collar details, interesting buttons and printed patterns do all the work and create an amazing outfit without you having to worry at all. Please keep in mind that if the shirt is sheer you should wear a tank op underneath. You don't want to have all the goods on show...

White tops:
Over jeans, tucked into a high waisted skirt, with colourful shorts, basically white tops go with everything and you need to have some at all times. Again studs, chains and fringes add an extra flair to your outfit and especially in the ones above even allow you not to bother with accessories...ok maybe add a bracelet or a ring (I do love my accessories).

Miscellaneous:
A black leather jacket is a must in a wardrobe. A white one is optional. But you can make it work. Especially if you dress in light and bright colours in spring and summer it's a good way to work the leather jacket look without having to wear something black which is going to give your outfit a rocker vibe that you were not going for.
A navy skirt can be paired with lots of things, the white shirt above would be the best option here. The tiny hearts create a polka dot effect and the contrasting belt will make your waist appear smaller. Cute!
As for the jumper, it may be spring but it still gets cold! The colour is super girly and the shoulder studs make it edgy. You can keep it for next winter too (yes if something looks good on you and keeps you warm you should wear it the next season too! you will still look beautiful in it!)!

If you want to see the rest of the items in this upcoming collection follow this link, which will get you to In Style where I got the images from. Let me know if you'd pick the same things as I want to and let's all wait together for when the collection comes out!

Kristine

Glitter Overload!

Hey there! Happy New Year!

I thought I'd show you the manicure I did for NYE. I have loads of glitter polishes but I wanted something chunkier that would look really bold. I also wanted to test if using actual craft glitter would work on my nails. The result is this!

The colour I used as a base is MaxFactor Nailfinity in Dusky Rose, but you can of course use anything you want. I painted the first coat, let it it dry and painted a second one. When the second coat was starting to dry, but was still a bit sticky, I dipped my nails in the glitter tube for a few seconds. This way they wouldn't be entirely covered in glitter, so you could still see the base colour. Then I pressed lightly with my fingers to make sure the glitter would stick properly and put some top coat over it to seal it in.

I really like how they turned out because it was something different, but I know some people didn't so I guess it is a love it or hate it kind of thing. I will definitely try it again, probably with a darker base to create more contrast. For me it's a nice and quick party manicure so I'm happy I found out how to do it. It also had a pretty good staying power, as none of the glitter came off at all, until one nail chipped when I was doing dishes 4 days later, because I had my fingers in hot water for a long time. Typical...

Let me know what you think of this manicure and if you are tempted to try it.

Kristine

Enchanted Forest Eau de Parfum Review

A few weeks ago I came across an article about a new perfume called Enchanted Forest by The Vagabond Prince. I was able to request a sample of the perfume and here's what I thought of it!
WOW! Just wow! I mean it is called enchanted forest but to be honest I did not expect it to be that faithful to its name! Think of the forest below, on a dark winter night, the smell of the rain on the ground seeping through fallen leaves under a pale moon. Now think of the most beautiful enchantress walking in that forest picking blackcurrant berries. This perfume makes me feel like her.

Let's start by the scent itself and go through the technical details:

Top notes: pink pepper, aldehydes, sweet orange (traces), flower cassis, blackcurrant leaf, hawthorn, effects of rum and wine, rosemary, davana.
Heart notes: blackcurrant buds absolute, CO2 blackcurrant, Russian coriander seed, honeysuckle, rose, carnation, vetiver
Base notes: opoponax resinoid, Siam benzoin, amber, oakmoss, fir balsam absolute, Patchouli Purecoeur, castoreum absolute, cedar notes, vanilla, musk

The bottle is made of black opaque glass to resemble a blackcurrant berry and the golden leaves are Hohloma grass, which represents the enchanted forest. Amongst the tendrils in the artwork of the bottle and the box you can also spot a sleeping dove (silence), the moon (fairytales), stars and butterflies which add to the enchantment of the night image the perfume alludes to.

And here's the description by the creator of the perfume, Bertrand Duchaufour:

"My inspiration for this fragrance was primarily the fruit of blackcurrant itself, from which I drew most of the the strength of the fragrance. The blackcurrant is the MOST IMPORTANT fruity note of the range that exists in perfumery. There are more than 400 raw materials that come across as fruity in the perfumer's palette. Blackcurrant and the sulfur effects of blackcurrant are the basis for the reconstruction of almost all fruits that perfumers and flavorists know. It is HUGE! I worked through all the blackcurrant forms that exist except the natural fruit juice, jams and candies …. I have mingled the effects of orange and other red fruits for a more sophisticated aspect to this fruit. Wine and some alcohol-based spiced hot wine drinks also inspired me so much (mulled wine and grog: the typical French drinks that came down through the ages...)
My second idea was to directly link the blackcurrant with the odor of a forest ... also a very interesting link because in blackcurrant there are hints of intense woody plants one can exploit. Blackcurrant has a facet of "grass porridge" (boiled herbs, like a soup!) that can work directly with herbaceous green notes, and even with aromatics that facilitate the construction of several woodland scents ...
I wanted to work the dark, mysterious, almost scary effects of the forest, all that evokes mysterie and, to man, seems almost supernatural in the forest: animals whose existence have been forgotten, the wetlands, the endless decomposition of rotting vegetation and its constant replenishing, the vital force of nature that man has hidden too deeply within himself …. This force, I evoke by the vibrant bone structure of a spicy woody chypre (patchouli, moss, vetiver, castoreum) but also by the warm, comfortable and intense effect of Balsam fir (pine needle absolute) that strengthens the woody notes and gives an evergreen aspect (i.e. the Russian taiga!) to any perfume."

Now, to what I thought of the perfume.

The Scent: The first scent I pick up is an intense leaf smell of blackcurrant leaves and fir. Imagine if you took the leaves on your fingers and crashed them to draw out the oils and scents. It is a very nice scent but it takes a couple of minutes to get used to, especially if you are not used to strong forest smells (yes I mean all of us city girls). The next thing I pick up after around 5 minutes is a scent of alcohol (the effects of rum and wine in the description). Think of really sweet mulled wine with fruity flavours and lots of spices. In the next 10 minutes the scent has changed a lot and what I smell is a sweet blackcurrant scent, think of hot marmalade brewing in the pot in a house next to a forest with the window open. I think this is quite a sensual mature scent. Definitely not your average sweet scent for girly girls. This perfume is a perfume for a woman who is alluring, sexy and mysterious but also a mother nature figure. I would wear it on a cold autumn and winter night for a formal event and probably when I'll be a little bit older than I am now.

Intensity: This is not a perfume that will radiate in the entire room, but if someone is standing next to you they can definitely smell it. I would not recommend it for people who get headaches from strong perfumes because, although its radius is not too big, it will be quite strong for the person who wears it. Alternatively avoid putting it behind your ears so that it will not be too close to your nose.

Longevity: The scent of the perfume stayed quite strong for the first hour (in its sweet blackcurrant form it settled after 15 minutes) and then it faded slightly and remained like that for the next 5 hours. After 6 hours I could barely smell in on my skin so I'd say it lasts for roughly 5-6 hours. This was a very nice surprise because I think perfumes should be long lasting, especially if you do not have the ability to reapply them throughout the day or your night out.

I am definitely interested in purchasing the full size product once it becomes available in January 2013 and I recommend it for anyone looking for a nice sensual forest scent themselves or as a gift for a mother, aunt or even grandmother. For more information you can also check the Vagabond Prince website.

Kristine
